Our Studio
Studio Gail Alexander is a full‑service interior design studio based in Scotland, specialising in the thoughtful transformation of period houses into homes. We create soulful, relaxed, and deeply personal homes that honour their architecture while supporting the realities of modern‑day life.
We collaborate closely with our clients to shape homes that feel truly lived‑in and personal, while easing the burden of decision fatigue and avoiding costly mistakes. The most beautiful interiors don’t read like showrooms; they feel comfortable, beautifully designed, and liveable. We favour character over perfection, choosing natural, high‑quality materials and well‑made pieces that age beautifully and last for years.
Our approach blends expertly sourced vintage and bespoke with classic design pieces, from a trusted network of makers and suppliers, built over many years. Warm woods, textured linens, soft layered lighting, handcrafted and vintage finds, natural stone, and metals that develop a gentle patina - these are the building blocks of a home that feels calm. The result is a thoughtful mix of old and new that creates depth and tells a story, room by room.
Every choice matters, from furniture and fabrics to the scent that greets you at the door. We design to nurture the senses and support wellbeing, so your home feels softer, calmer, and unmistakably yours. A perfectly imperfect space that restores, comforts, and reflects who you are.
Our Team
Gail Alexander
Interior design was never simply about beautiful rooms for Gail. It began with understanding why certain places make us feel something.
After studying Marketing and Law, followed by a Master’s in Fashion Marketing and Brand Communications, Gail built her career in London and Sydney, working with global fashion and lifestyle brands across branding, retail design, customer experience and creative direction. Designing stores, shaping brand identities and creating environments that people wanted to spend time in gave her a deep understanding of how thoughtful design influences the way we live, shop and connect.
Alongside her career, travel became an equally important education. Time spent exploring cities such as Paris, Florence and Copenhagen, together with years living in London and Sydney, exposed her to very different approaches to architecture, craftsmanship and interiors. Whether it was the quiet simplicity of Scandinavian design, the timeless elegance of European apartments or the relaxed warmth of Australian homes, each place reinforced the same belief: the best interiors are never dictated by trends. They evolve slowly, tell a story and feel entirely authentic to the people who live in them.
That philosophy had already been quietly taking shape long before her career began. Growing up between Victorian homes in Glasgow, old Scottish farmhouses, coastal cottages on Arran and weekends spent in a historic castle, Gail developed an instinctive appreciation for buildings with history and character. She was drawn to worn stone floors, handmade furniture, soft natural textures and rooms that felt collected rather than decorated.
After graduating from KLC School of Design in London, Gail returned to Glasgow to establish her own studio, bringing together her background in branding, retail environments and interior design. Today she creates calm, timeless homes throughout the UK that balance beauty with practicality, combining natural materials, considered colour, vintage pieces and contemporary craftsmanship to create spaces that feel quietly luxurious and deeply personal.
Her approach is thoughtful rather than formulaic. Every project begins by understanding how her clients want to live, creating homes that feel intuitive, effortless and enduring -spaces that become more beautiful with time and unmistakably belong to the people who call them home.
INTERIOR DESIGNERAnna Vogel McManus
Growing up in Sweden, Anna developed an instinctive eye for interiors where colour, craftsmanship and family history existed effortlessly side by side. Homes layered with inherited antiques, vibrant textiles and iconic Scandinavian design taught her that beautiful spaces should feel lived in, collected over time and full of personality.
After building her own successful fashion brand, Anna developed an exceptional understanding of colour, proportion, fabric and craftsmanship—skills that naturally led her to retrain in Interior Design in Stockholm. Her fashion background still shapes every project, giving her an intuitive ability to combine textures, patterns and materials in ways that feel confident, unexpected and beautifully balanced.
Now based in Glasgow, Anna brings a distinctly Scandinavian perspective to every home she designs. Her own house, featured in Homes & Interiors Scotland, perfectly reflects her aesthetic: a joyful mix of Svenskt Tenn fabrics, Sandberg wallpapers, vintage finds, family heirlooms and contemporary Scandinavian classics. It is colourful without feeling busy, playful without losing sophistication, and layered with the warmth that comes from surrounding yourself with pieces you genuinely love.
Anna has an extraordinary talent for the finishing layers that transform a house into a home. From sourcing characterful antiques and original artwork to selecting fabrics, lighting and decorative objects, she creates interiors that feel individual, expressive and deeply personal.
Warm, energetic and refreshingly straightforward, Anna encourages clients to be braver with colour, embrace pattern and create homes that reflect who they are rather than what’s currently trending. The result is interiors that feel joyful, welcoming and impossible to mistake for anyone else’s.
